Color Correction 101

Color Correcting…

Scary and life changing all at the same time!  Ok… that may be a bit much, but it can definitely take your makeup look to the next level!  Dark circles, dullness, and redness are the top 3 complaints women have while sitting in my chair. Don’t fret!  I have good news!  While some of these concerns may take the intervention of a skin/medical specialist, there are temporary fixes!

Going back to the basics… and kindergarten are KEY!  Understanding color theory just a smidge, will help tremendously!  I know most people don’t think of the color wheel during every day life, so I’m probably asking for a bit much; but understanding WHAT you’re doing and WHY you’re doing it, will make it click!

Being licensed since 2010, I started this journey doing hair, with makeup following in 2012.  I’m not gonna lie, we studied color theory RELIGIOUSLY in hair school… but I didn’t get it until I started doing makeup.  I am now able to apply it to hair just as often as makeup.

Let’s break it down!

Green Cancels Red and vice versa.  Putting green on red skin will neutralize the redness, while making it much easier to conceal with your foundation/concealers.

Canceling out can also mean COMPLIMENTS!  Have you ever noticed a beautiful redhead in green clothes?  STUNNING.  Green and red are also COMPLIMENTARY colors!  This can also lead to the pink family also!  (see color wheel!)

Where’s my blonde sistas?  You guys can’t stand that YELLOW YELLOW hair right?  So, what do you do?  You indulge in your favorite purple shampoo! THAT IS COLOR CORRECT

Dark circles are typically in the “blue” family.  What do you think will correct that based on the color wheel?  You guessed it!  Salmon/peachy/orange tones, depending on your complexion!

Check out the videos we made below showcasing color correcting on 3 different complexions!  The products used are mentioned in the video, as well as, in a pic below!
